(Drinks only review) Saw online that District was one of the few bars in the area that offered happy hour on weekends so we checked it out on our bar hopping spree around San Pedro square! Happy hour is from 5-6pm so we got right to it and ordered two Moscow mules. They were tasty! I wish there were more drink options on the happy hour menu but I'm just glad it was offered on weekends. We just so happened to be there after a sharks game so it was a little chaotic inside. I would return for happy hour!

One of my favorite watering holes in downtown San Jose located inside of San Pedro Square. Great place for anything from large groups to intimate dates. The drinks are strong, the food is delicious, and the service is friendly.

Wandering San Pedro Square prior to a Sharks game without a plan is usually not a good idea, luckily for us District was available to save the night. While sitting at a table usually requires a reservation, the bar does not require any and you can have food there so it's a great arrangement. It's much bigger on the inside than the outside lets on with really high ceilings and wide dining area that surrounds a large bar. We came in during happy hour which offered $9 drinks, $8 wings, ceviche, and deviled eggs, and $7 basket of fries. In addition to this we ordered a mushroom pizza and some Guinness Business. The food was very good and the drinks were well made, the Guinness Business made great use of a Guinness reduction and had great balance. The happy hour was very worth it and I would make this a prime location for when I'm in San Pedro before a Sharks game.

We came for a post holiday date night and had a great experience. The service was exceptional. Our server was so attentive as were the other staff. And they made sure everything was meeting our needs. The bourbon selections were great (though disappointing they were out of Weller 12 year, one of my favorites) but gave me another Weller at the same price. When the one I selected wasn't what I wanted, they changed it out with no issues. The food was good. We had the Winter Roasted Pear Salad, fried Brussel Sprouts , arancini and whipped buratta. The buratta was disappointing. Almost like a cottage cheese. But everything else was good. Beignets were ok, kinda doughy on the inside. Drinks were fantastic. Had old fashioneds with our choices of bourbon. Bartenders are really good and make a lot of their mixers and syrups in-house. Overall lovely experience and will be back.

I've been here twice, and both times the quality of food is quite good. The first time was with a party of four where we pre-ordered our food and signed a contract, and the second time was a reservation with a party of eight. It's quite conducive to hosting larger groups of people and the restaurant got back to my inquiry relatively quickly. I would say the pre-ordering of the food did not affect the speed at which the dishes came out, though. We spent a long time waiting for certain items to come out, which did negatively skew my perception the first time I came here. I'm not too sure how it works in the restaurant business, but please correct me if I'm wrong in that pre-ordering your items should mean that they are completed faster. We basically ordered a bunch of stuff on the menu, so let me give my honest opinion in a laundry list format (the price is not being factored into consideration in my review since they were both corporate events): Chef's tasting board: the toasted bread, accoutrements, and charcuterie meats were very good. The cheese was not good, but no one in my party was particularly a large cheese fan. The goat cheese taste in particular is very strong and lingers. It'd be nice if they added a palate cleanser to this board for that purpose. Oysters on the half shell: really good, I had about four or five of these. The first time I had them at EMC on Santana Row I did not have a decent experience afterwards, so I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have the same issue with the oysters at District. They're fresh and pair really well with the champagne mignonette! Ahi tuna poke: this was a hit, we ordered it three or four times. I'd say that it's a little too salty and it'd be better if they toned down on the sodium, but overall really delicious and plated in an aesthetic manner. Always a fan of crispy rice and raw fish! House cut fries: really good, can't go wrong with these. Love the truffle flavor, I don't like parmesan but could barely taste it with these so it positively impacted my personal experience. If you're a parmesan enjoyer, maybe tell them to be a little more heavy handed with it when you're ordering. Roasted cauliflower: sauteed really well and is a great pick especially if you have any vegetarians in your party! Sea scallops: also has an issue with the sodium to be honest, it's already paired with crispy pork belly that I initially mistook for bacon. Overall quite good, the seafood at District is quality. Gambas al ajillo: came with six large shrimp. Not a big fan of risotto, the sauce it came in was pretty refreshing! Crispy spiced chicken wings: also has a sodium issue, but the chicken itself is quite tender and the breading is good! Smoked chicken empanadas: these were huge. Quite savory and one of the more filling starters, I would definitely order these again. Sandwiches: Buttermilk fried chicken sliders: so hard to fit in your mouth, they're tall! It's super good though, the chicken is juicy and the pickled chili slaw is flavorful and adds a nice touch of tangy sweetness to the flavor profile. All natural beef sliders: quite good, I didn't enjoy them as much as the chicken sliders. They both use the same bun, but that's about where the similarity begins and ends. Pizza: Margherita pizza: uses fresh ingredients for sure, was my first time trying margherita! Dessert: Beignets: definitely a table favorite, the rum caramel dipping sauce had an interesting deeper nutty flavor to it than plain caramel due to the rum! Chocolate pot de creme: I liked this one a lot, the mousse was rich and creamy while the whipped cream added an airy texture to each scoop. I love that District has a lot of innovative dishes that put new spins on classic dishes (the combination of chocolate, graham cracker, and marshmallow in a non-s'more context) House made ice cream trio: could skip this, I'm not a fan of airy ice cream and prefer creamier textures.
